The project site in Bielefeld is located in a climatically vulnerable area, with sealed surfaces, heat retention, and little vegetation, creating an uninviting environment. The goal is to improve the area by opening the block, integrating the inner courtyard into public space, creating new pathways, and providing a welcoming meeting spot.

The block will be transformed from a monofunctional to a multifunctional space, including retail, restaurants, offices, a city hotel, cultural venues, and diverse housing for sustainable development.

To address the growing resource consumption in construction, only part of the existing building will be demolished, with local social enterprises involved. The original structure will be maintained and enhanced with a lightweight timber addition, aligned with the existing concrete framework.
